Nashville bird rehabilitation expert Marty Rush went by to check on the
Long-eared Owl the evening of Nov. 3, after it was reported by Jeff Cowell.
Marty
says she found the bird ("a gorgeous long-eared owl!") still on the roost.
She enlisted help from the Metro fire hall on the corner (with permission of
the chief) and got a fire truck to elevate her to the bird's level. It
permitted the truck to approach, and Marty says she got within 2 feet of the
bird
when it flew. Mary, who handles raptors every day, injured and otherwise, says
she could have used a net, but was trying hand capture. She said it flew
several blocks before they lost sight of it, and that it was flying strong and
appeared to be healthy.
