I=27m sending this report along for one of our (TWRA) biologists, David
Sims, who is an experienced raptor handler in middle TN. David taught
me everything I know about catching raptors in buildings. =20

David went out on a rescue call this morning and found a Long-eared Owl
at the VICC Cancer Clinic at 2008 Charlotte Avenue in Nashville. When
he tried to catch the owl it flew south across Charlotte Avenue to a
tree near a light tan building with light blue stripes. The owl had
been reported to having flown into the glass window of the building and
was dazed with a slight injury to one of its eyes. However, it flew
about 75 yards and he was unable to catch it. David didn=27t get any
pictures of it since he was planning on rescuing it. =20

I just got the message and it is too late to get there by dark now (and
camera is at home), so I plan to go to that area tomorrow (Tues) and
search the thick trees (or whatever they have), camera in tow. The
Long-eared=27s I=27ve seen have been tame, so maybe it=27ll hang around
tonight. Certainly a rare bird in TN. So a Long-eared and Saw-whet in
Nashville. Interesting. =20

If you didn=27t see on the Alabama Birds list serve, a Long-eared Owl was
found sick on Gar=C3=A7on Point, Santa Rosa County, FL yesterday. Maybe =
they
are moving this year as well.

Cheers,
  Scott Somershoe
