[TN-Bird] Mourning dove's ehavior; song & field sparrows

Happy Cold Morning,

Hungry birds here in the Charlotte Park section of West Nashville included
an interesting mourning dove. For awhile, it rested in a warm(?) clump of
fallen leaves on the deck outside the French doors and only about 5 feet from
my
seat inside the house. It puffed its feathers up to create a warm air
pocket. Every few seconds, it made a little jerk-like movement like people
make
when we hiccup, burp or have a little muscle tic. After several minutes, it
"recovered" and went about hurriedly "scarfing down" more bird seed. Does
anyone KNOW for sure if birds really do have these same kinds of digestive or
nervous problems that we humans often have? I would think they do, but I just
never noticed it before!

Right now, my little song sparrow and a small flock of field sparrows are
out there eating, and, so far, it is "bird of the day." It's also very
"scrappy" this morning, and it just keeps attacking and chasing the field
sparrows
away from the feed!

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
