Brief visit to the western portion of the Cove at Concord Park, west Knox
County, Sat. Dec 2 around noon. The water in the west pond was considerably
diminished, concentrating 74 Mallards, 3 Gadwalls and 14 Coots at its east
end. Highlight of the day was the 2 Horned Grebes in very close in the
south western cove. Beautiful! 45 Ring Billed Gulls sat on a sandbar in
that cove and a Belted Kingfisher was heard.
The privet between these two bodies of water was full of Cedar Waxwings. A
Hermit Thrush and a Northern Cardinal were under the privet and 3 Dark Eyed
Juncos were nearby.
Other birds seen/heard were Carolina Chickadees, Carolina Wrens, 3 American
Crows and a Red-Bellied Woodpecker.
First time since Oct. 7 that I haven't heard Brown Headed Nuthatches (they
were there the Friday after Thanksgiving) and probably the first time ever I
haven't seen at least one Great Blue Heron.
