[TN-Bird] Rufous Hummingbird Day 2

The flash of rufous into the circle of light from the heat lamp this morning
before dawn brought back a lot of memories from the winter of 2004-2005.
WillieBoy - that's what we've decided to call him since we think it would be so
sweet if he was the son of Willie - came to the feeder at 6:17 this morning.
And with the lack of caution typical of youth, after a moment of puzzled looks
at the heat lamp, he settled down and had almost 15 long drinks. Five minutes
later he was back and drank about 20 times. In the first 30 minutes he has fed
five times, so the frigid night obviously burned a lot of energy in his keeping
warm.
He came to the feeders about every 30 minutes yesterday. He is a beautiful
little guy with the great greenish coloring on the back, the black wings,
rufous and white body and the beginning of his scarlet throat color. And he
could be Willie's son. After posting about him yesterday we received an email
from Bob Sargent in which he said they are now doing DNA tests on the feathers
they take while banding to determine if the offspring of birds might be coming
back to the same locations.
We have some good pictures of this bird and will be happy to send them if
anyone desires. Two of our local birders and excellent photographers came
yesterday afternoon to get some better ones but WillieBoy was uncooperative.
He came to the feeder several times but managed to stay on the back ports. I
guess he hasn't realized his celebrity status as he predecessor seemed to know
from the beginning.
