Folks,
I'm forwarding the below on behalf of Paul Super. He is a great guy
to work with and for.
Charlie
I have received funding from the USFWS and the Tennessee
Ornithological Society to hire a Student Conservation Association
intern to work from March 5th through June 24 this year on a number
of ornithological projects.
The first project is monitoring peregrine falcon nesting at 2+
locations in Tennessee and one in North Carolina. The second project
is to conduct surveys of grassland birds in the park to help us
better understand how our management of grasslands is effecting them,
with most of the work being in Cades Cove. The third project, as we
have time, will be to visit historic sites for rare bird species,
such as Cerulean Warbler, Swainson's Warbler, Olive-sided Flycatcher,
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Northern Saw-whet Owl to determine
current occupancy.
We provide housing, SCA provides a stipend and some travel funds.
The intern will have to provide their own vehicle, though we will
provide some compensation for gas money related to use getting around
the park.
If any of you know of someone who has good bird identification
skills, is mature, responsible, and a hard worker, and would like the
opportunity to work for next to nothing in return for experience and
the chance to see spring in the Smokies, please have them contact me
as soon as possible.
Thank you and take care!
Paul
