For those interested in the history of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker, two
new books & the reprinting of James Tanner's classic on the species are
available for your reading pleasure.
"In Search of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker"
by Jerome Jackson (2004).
"The Race to Save the Lord God Bird"
by Phillip Hoose (2004).
"The Ivory-billed Woodpecker"
by James Tanner (2003 reprint).
Tanner was a professor at ETSU (briefly), then for many years at
UT-Knoxville & was a long-time member of TOS.
Also on the Ivory-bill are chapters in the following:
"Hope Is the Thing With Feathers"
by Christopher Cokinos (2000).
"The Ghost with Trembling Wings"
Scott Weidensaul (2002).
Any or all of these will make for good reading on a cold winter's day
(or any other time). Just thought you might like to know.
