Merry Christmas TN-Birders:
Excitement is in the air throughout Northeast Tennessee as we approach
Christmas.
President-Elect Danny Gaddy of the Tennessee Ornithological Society is to
arrive here Saturday evening from Chattanooga to take part in the Bristol Bird
Club's 11th Annual Regional Christmas Party -- the social occassion of the year
for birders from everywhere.
You are invited! Just let us know if you plan to come and we will get you
details and directions.
Jeff Wilson, the OL'COOT / TLBA from Bartlett, drove all the way from Memphis a
few years go to see for himself what this Birder's Christmas Party was all
about. Just ask Ol'Coot. He will tell you it is the best Christmas party he
has every attended.
We will meet at the home of the famous Charlie Parker of TN-Birds fame at Piney
Flats just north of Johnson City. Charlie is our rip-em-up 13-year-old birder.
After a lavish covered-dish dinner, birders will gather as Gaddy lights a
candle to connect all of our birders to birders across the state. If you want
to connect with us, just light a candle at your bird club Christmas party this
year. Or simply light a candle for TOS where ever you are on Saturday evening
and think about our wonderful community of Tennessee birders and TOS. And if
you want to share you candle, send a sentence to TN-Birds and tell us who you
are and where you were when your flame began to burn. Charlie Parker will
immediately put a message on TN-Birds to let everyone know the TOS flame is
burning here in Northeast Tennessee. You will fill our warm glow.
Let the party begin !
Danny Gaddy will be bring energy and direction to the Tennessee Ornithological
Society this spring. President Virginia Reynolds has been working closely with
Danny as her term moves along at a great pace. She is helping set a the
cadence for Danny's term as our leader.
The BBC and regional birders (and maybe you) will enjoy a great evening of good
food, Christmas cheer and music, wonderful talent, an ocean of colorful
sweaters and Chirstmas hats and lights. Gifts everywhere for everyone.
We will announce and present the "Birder of the Year Award" for the region. We
will award the "Best New Birder," the "Most Improved Birder," and the "James
and Mae Musick Service Award" to birding. We will also present our "Eagle
Service Pins" to members. Then the moment comes when we name the 20 best bird
finds of the year in our birding region. The countdown from 20 to 1 ends with
an award presentation for the "Best Bird of the Year."
Santa Clause arrives immediately and we have gifts for every person who
attends. Birders sit on Santa's lap to get a good doze of who has been naughty
and nice about birding during the past year. Ol'Coot came under great heat
from Santa for his bird identifications ;-) We have gifts for the little
children and gifts for the older birders. Everyone is wide-eyed at Santa.
Danny Gaddy is here to launch our new club year for 2005 and we will help
launch his new term coming this spring.
Let's go partying.....
come join us !
