One Short-eared owl was observed at 1:20pm today. It flushed from the side of
a gravel road, which runs through a large bluestem and broom sedge field. I
had been out to the field last night (12/3) at dusk to look for them. An
owlish looking bird flushed from the ground close to where they were seen last
year. I immediately suspected short-ear, but it was too dark to confirm.
I was back out in the same field today scouting the flush area and hoping
there might be an owl out foraging early. I was also taking advantage of the
white fields looking for other interesting birds. More horned larks (41) than
usual were seen as a result.
Thanks for getting me back on-line Wallace!
