[TN-Bird] Cades Cove

Bird activity was good in Great Smoky Mountains NP's Cades Cove today with a
total of 36 species. Along with the "regular" birds usually seen along the
loop drive and around the sewerage ponds, I had 2 Fox sparrows along Sharp's
Lane, a Vesper sparrow near the Abrams Falls parking area and 8 Rusty
blackbirds at the sewerage ponds (along with 5 Bufflehead and 15 Canada
geese.)
Sparrows were active with 5 Rufous-sided towhees and 12+ White-throated
sparrows
near the sewerage ponds, Fox, Song, Swamp, Field and Chipping sparrows along
Sparks Lane, both kinglets and all woodpeckers except Red-headed were found.
A flock of over 250 Red-winged blackbirds and 6 Common grackles along with
24 E. meadowlarks were feeding in the horse pasture at the loop road entrance.
Fall colors are still holding and the bucks are readying for the rut with
many observed scraping and sparing.
