Swann Bridge (I-40), Jefferson county, 11/4/07, 2-5 PM
Lake elevation : 946.25=20

Looking from the shore earlier in the week, we could see 100s of shorebirds=
 about a mile south of Swann Bridge.  This afternoon, we launched our canoe=
 from the Spring Creek Public Access to get a closer look.  Waterbirds were=
 concentrated in and along a shallow channel between 2 long mudbars well aw=
ay from the main river channel.  The windbird swarms eventually landed clos=
e enough for a systematic count-by-5s.

Double-crested cormorant (45)
Great blue heron (115)
Great egret (12)
Bald eagle
Killdeer (55)
Greater yellowlegs (7)
Least sandpiper (240)
Dunlin (355)

Ring-billed gull (400+)
