The Tennessee Ornithological Society held it's annual fall meeting in
Manchester over the weekend Nov. 3 & 4, hosted by Highland Rim Chapter, with
field
trips led by John Lamb and Don Davidson in Coffee and Franklin counties. 30
members and friends were on the Sat. field trip to sites around Arnold Air
Force Base and Woods Reservoir, and 15 Sunday morning to Manchester Greenway
and
Old Stone Fort State Park. Birding was not was not at it's peak at this
in-between point in the season, but 70 species were seen and the comradery of
members from across the state combined with perfect fall weather made for a
great weekend. List follows.
Some highlights: in Franklin Co. 1 LOGERHEAD SHRIKE, and small flock PINE
SISKINS
fly-over (heard first by Ed LeGrand), at least one RED-BREASTED NUTHACH and
several WINTER WRENS. Conditions were not ideal on Woods Res. but we managed
to find a couple of groups of shorebirds with more than one person getting
their life look at DUNLIN with a nice in-scope comparison with Least
Sandpiper.
Favorite mammal of the weekend had to be Daniel Moss' black lab puppies.
