Hello Birders,

Before we were joined by Mike Todd at Coot Bay near Pace Point on Tuesday,
Kevin Breault and I searched the area down from the old maintenance shed where
we found at least six LeConte's sparrows in about nine sightings. It's
rough walking, but I did manage to last long enough to get my lifer LeConte's!
 A
beautiful harrier was flying around over the area, hopefully hunting for
mice and not our lovely little LeConte's. I got a pretty good look at the
last
one that flew up in that I saw it "head first" thus getting a look at the
face pattern.

Had a lovely flock of hooded mergansers at Bufflehead Pond, then later on
another pond as we followed Mike to Rocky Point.

Mike's earlier post covers the rest of our day very well. The water was
smooth as glass with barely a ripple even when it started to rain here and
there.

It was great to see a lifer and a few nice birds that I hadn't seen in a
long time. The late avocet outperformed itself giving us quite a show.

Happy Birding,

Dee Thompson
Nashville, TN
