[TN-Bird] An unexpected "V"

This morning (Nov. 12, 2006) at our little farm here in western Lewis
County...
While doing my morning rounds that double as my daily bird walk, I
saw a "V" approaching high in the sky from the north. Hoping for off-
course cranes, I watched them as they got closer. It was quickly
evident that their wingbeat was wrong for cranes, so I started
thinking maybe a flock of geese more interesting than our resident
canadas? Still as they drew nearer, remaining very high, they did
not materialize as geese either. What they did reveal themselves to
be was Double-crested Cormorants, 67 of them, winging their way south
30+ miles from the nearest large body of water. "Yard" bird #148,
with 141 this year.
