Herron Rd.
off Hwy 213
Lake Co Tn.
Reelfoot Lake
Someone, a non birder, had reported a "strange" looking bird that the head
reminded them of a Black Vulture but smaller and had a long curved bill, etc.
After questioning I realized it was probably an Ibis. I went and looked where
they had seen it that day to no avail. Today was checking out some ducks and
shore bird activity on Herron rd. which is off hwy 213 which comes off of Hwy
78 N. of Tiptonville. Herron is the second rd on the left and the bird was
seen on the far side of the tree line between the fields on the left. The Ibis
was in the puddle on the far side of the tree line. There was no sunshine to
help out. Eye was dark, had greenish cast on back/sides. Dark bill and legs. No
white seen at eyes. Looks more like a first winter White eyed Ibis but
.........Also had a nice assortment of ducks: Mallard, Gadwall, N. Shoveler,
Am. Widgeon, Wood Duck. Also at least three Greater Yellowlegs plus some other
shorebirds that flushed when An imm. Bald Eagle flew over the ducks several
times getting low over the water. Also a Female N. Harrier was in the field on
the right side of Herron rd. with the Imm. Bald Eagle earlier.
