I birded the Tennessee Valley Authority's Kingston Steam (Fossil) Plant in
Roane County, Kingsport, TN today (November 14, 2005) from about 4:45 to
5:25 pm.
In the first ash pond that you come to on the left (and not up on the hill):
Gadwall- many
Hooded Mergansers
American Coots
And out on the Tennessee River an island has been exposed due to dropping
water levels. This island had about 40 shorebirds on it:
Killdeer- 38
Dowitchers- 2
These shorebirds were viewed in the rain at dusk and with a light fog.
