Mississippi River
Shelby Co, TN
Today, I took a lunch break at the river and saw small groups or waterfowl
heading south the easy way, floatin' down the river. A couple of weeks ago, I
had a single Blue Snow Goose fly by and last Saturday, I had a single Snow
flyby but it looked extremely short necked and could have been a Ross's. On
Sunday things were a bit better with 3 groups of mixed Snows totaling 600 plus
birds and a small group of very vocal White-fronted were seen scooting south,
my first real goose migration of the season.
Today there was nothing much flying but I did see the following on the
river; 1 adult Common Loon, 3 Horned Grebe, 2 Pied-billed Grebe, 2 Mallard, 6
Gadwall, 2 Pintail, 7 Shoveler, 4 Ring-necked, 9 Lesser Scaup, 17 Ruddy Duck
and
74 American Coot.
It will be interesting to see what has come in with this front passage.
After my fly-over Pomarine Jaeger at Ensley Bottoms, there were Pomarine found
from Colorado to Georgia and points in between. Again when a good bird shows
up
somewhere get out and look, there are usually more, "rare birds" than
birders out looking.
Good Birding !!!
