[TN-Bird] Saw-whet Owl at Seven Islands

Tonight a group of University of Tennessee students and Knoxville-TOS members
sat out under the stars waiting for a Saw-whet owl to be attracted to our
three open nets with a tape of a Saw-whet owl call. Our efforts were rewarded
around 8:30pm when we were able to band and release a female Saw-whet Owl at
Seven Islands Wildlife Reserve in southeastern Knox County. This is the first
time we have been able to capture Saw-whets in Knox county. Last year we
banded
birds in Anderson and Blount Counties.
We also heard Screech and Great-horned owls calling, and we found over two
dozen pellets probably from the Barn owl hanging out in the barns.
