Dog is a good idea
A friend of mine in Florida had a problem with several varieties of small
animals bothering his birds and food and birdbath. His solution was quite
unique.

He mowed his grass down to a quarter inch and carefully laid a six foot wide
piece of chicken wire (er excuse me..... poultry netting) to cover the area.
after the grass grew back he placed his feeders, and birdbath on "the area" and
hooked the wire net to a fence charger with a remote control.

He told me most learn rather quickly.... (little extreme, but I applaud his
ingenuity)

keep looking up!
