[TN-Bird] Hiwassee Whoopers

I just checked the Operation Migration website, and they report that =
there
are currently 7 Whooping Cranes at Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge. I saw one =
of
them yesterday. It was at the Armstrong Bend area (possibly the same one
reported on Nov 9) in with a flock of ~100 Sandhill Cranes. It was
absolutely gorgeous. A nearby flock of 39 Sandhill Cranes contained 2
sandhills wearing colored leg bands attached by the International Crane
Foundation. From the color combinations I could see, they were either a
mated pair, or one of the adults from that pair and one of their chicks =
from
2003. Keep your eyes open for color banded sandhills. There have been =
quite
a few banded over the years by various organizations and researchers. =
Check
out
http://www.savingcranes.org/conservation/our_projects/article.cfm?cid=3D1=
&aid=3D
44&pid=3D17 to find out about all the different banding combinations and =
how
to report a color banded crane.
