[TN-Bird] Purple finch--r.b.nuts

Hi Birders,
Before I left home at 8:30 AM today, I had a brilliant male purple finch
"lording" his gorgeousness over the house finches and sharing their food here
in
the Charlotte Park section of West Nashville a few blocks east of the Cleece's
Ferry Landing which is on the Cumberland River in Davidson County.

While doing errands before attending a meeting, I was driving across Harding
Place alongside the Belle Meade Country Club golf course about 3/4 mile east
of Harding Road. While stopped awaiting a person who needed the make a left
turn, I scanned the cedar trees between the street and the fairway and found a
red-breasted nuthatch climbing up one of them. Just as the fellow ahead was
able to execute his turn, and I started to move ahead, I glimpsed another
climbing bird on a second tree but was not sure of the ID on it--probably a
second
red-breasted.

About 3:55 PM, I went out to add bird seed to my "Smorga-bird" just in time
to hear and see FIVE red-breasteds fly into my backyard trees where they
started climbing skyward. When they reached the treetops, they flew off in
unison
"talking" to one another as they had done when they flew in. They flew south
across the streets and I-40 in the direction of the WSMV-TV tower on Knob Hill
in West Meade which is less than a mile or so away.

This has been a fine day for "goodies" as well as more chickadees and titmice
than normal and a few more mourning doves. I have tons of cardinals & blue
jays as well. My ONE junco scout is still remaining faithful, so I wonder when
the rest of its tribe will arrive.

Winter's a-coming! Let's all get some great birds.

Dee Thompson,
Nashville, TN
