That is an interesting thing to know. I appreciate you making this
known via the list serve. As many TEWA's as I and others have banded in
the mountains of East Tenn/West NC, I have never observed this behavior.
I would say I believe I have seen them around the touch-me-nots (jewel
weed) on Big Bald, but I will likely pay more attention to that next
year.
Would you do me a favor? Ask the people there who may monitor the TEWA
on a long term basis to gauge the numbers of TEWA's there this year.
Our station, and Rick Knight on Roan mountain as well, saw substantially
smaller numbers of this species this year. I hypothesize that the
hurricanes that came through almost continuously through September and
October may have pushed them to other routes, but I can't say for sure.
I was just wondering if the numbers were down all over or if our weather
situation was the main variable. We didn't have any significant
numbers, though, even on good weather days.
