[TN-Bird] Pine Siskin

Has anyone ever seen Pine Siskins pick and /or eat algae from a pond?
We observed four of them in and around the waterfall section of our garden
pond. We first thought they were just getting a drink of water when we
discovered they actually were eating and picking around the thick green algae
that is growing in the waterfall section of the pond. This is a behavior we
have never observed before and just wondered if anyone else has ever noticed
this.
