This morning Phillip Casteel and I formed the advanced party
for the Nashville TOS Chapter's latest Wednesday walk. Going
from the west parking lot to Long Bridge and back, we found
that most birds were along the water's edge and in the
sunshine. As noted yesterday by Jan Shaw, the recent cold
front brought a new mix of birds through the area.
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERs now dominate (50+), but to our
surprise, there was a major movement of "GREENs," short for
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERs, with 15+ found on our modest
walk. A major influx of WHITE-THROATED SPARROWs was noted,
as well as a continuing migration of N. FLICKERs. We had
8 species of warblers with MAGNOLIAs still in abundance
but now relegated to second place in numbers. There were
15 PIED BILLED GREBEs on the lake but Jan Shaw's GREAT
EGRETs of yesterday morning had left. A pair of SHARP-SHINNED
HAWKs gave us a brief display.

Eventually, we met Richard Connors, who had an OVENBIRD on
Ganier Ridge, and later the major NTOS Wednesday walk group
caught up to us, and we exchanged some information. Also found
on the walk were 1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, my first of the fall
BROWN CREEPER, a WOOD THRUSH and a SWAMP SPARROW and BARN
SWALLOW. ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKs are still calling in numbers.
