Friday 2007 October 5
7:00-9:00am
cloudy
With the upcoming NTOS fall count tomorrow, I thought
I would check on things at Radnor. The clouds made
viewing poor, and the birds were similar to the past
several days. In walking from the west parking lot
to Long Bridge, I found 10 species of warblers,
MAGNOLIA numbers continue to dominate with a nice
showing from AM. REDSTARTs, including an adult male.
The male WILSON'S was again at the edge of the water in
front of the ranger's house next to the dam. On this
gray day there was a major influx of GRAY CATBIRDs.
PHILADELPHIA VIREOs continued in good numbers, and
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKs and SCARLET TANAGERs were
nice sightings. I enjoyed watching a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH
work its way toward a puddle below the spillway at the
dam. I did not see or hear a RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD, although we have had one (apparently the
same one) at my feeders in Bellevue (Davidson Co.)
all week, including this morning.
Birds of interest included:
Chimney Swift 25+
N. Flicker 3
E. Wood-Pewee 3
