Clear, cool
Walked from the west parking lot to long bridge and back. The
changing of the guard has been accomplished. The beauty of the
fall colors combined with a few good birds and a lovely morning
made for a nice outing. However, it was not a particularly
solitary morning. Plenty of photographers out and volunteers
were mulching part of the Lake Trail as I left.
A raft of 70+ ducks, all in a concentrated ball on the water,
unfortunately went unidentified, but I did find several species of
more cooperative water birds. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERs dominated
numbers in the woods with at least 50+ birds. A large flock of
AMERICAN ROBINs at the west parking lot also made its presence
known as well as a large flock of cackling COMMON GRACKLEs near
long bridge. Two INDIGO BUNTINGs and a single DARK-EYED JUNCO
were opposite bookends, evidence of the changing of the guard.
Best birds of the morning were a single LINCOLN'S SPARROW
plus lone TENNESSEE and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERs.
Birds of interest included:
Pied-billed Grebe 2
Wood Duck 2
Gadwall 4
American Wigeon 1
Ruddy Duck 2
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3
Golden-crowned Kinglet 1
Hermit Thrush 1
Tennessee Warbler 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 1
Indigo Bunting 2
Lincoln's Sparrow 1
Song Sparrow 3
White-throated Sparrow 18
Dark-eyed Junco 1
