In reply to David Patterson's comments about Standifer Gap Marsh, I'm 
thrilled that the church that owns the marsh is eager to protect it. After 
repeatedly reading about this marsh on this website and in North American 
Birds, I finally made a visit there on May 1 of this year (I was driving 
from Crossville that morning). This truly is a world-class marsh!! In a 
single spotting scope view there were 3 Soras and a Virginia Rail all at 
once (and another VA Rail was lurking off to the side). There were numerous 
others of each easily seen and heard that morning. David and Gloria showed 
up and graciously showed me a couple of Least Bitterns and nests. These were 
only the highlights, there being lots of other marsh birds there. 
Chattanooga is certainly blessed to have such a treasure as Standifer Gap 
Marsh.
