[TN-Bird] Surprising "new" peanut butter eating species!

Greetings,
While having my Sunday dinner in my dining room in the Charlotte Park
section of West Nashville, Davidson County, at about 12:30 P.M. today, I caught
a
glimpse of "something small" landing at the peanut butter site on the dead
grape vine just outside the door. Thinking it was either one of my chickadees
or a titmouse, I finished cutting off a bite of chicken before I looked over
to see the bird. Imagine my shock when I looked to see a gorgeous white-eyed
vireo gobbling down the PB only about nine feet from where I was sitting. I
watched for a moment, taking in all its beauty so close to me. When I
reached slowly across the table for my camera, I wasn't slow enough not to
spook
the bird, so it flew away leaving me somewhat unhappy that I did not get it
recorded on film. I thought it highly unusual for this species to feed on
peanut butter until I recalled having had a peanut butter eating yellow-rumped
warbler that stayed with me for four winters in a row, and of which I DID get
lots of photos with my pre-digital film camera. A moment later, another
white-eyed vireo flew toward the peanut butter from the grape vines, missed it
and
brushed the French door glass before going back into the grape vines. I then
noticed that the grape vines were teeming with little birds, but before I
could check further, they all flew out and headed up over the roof and toward
the south.
The catbird I reported Friday stayed around the rest of the day and hasn't
been seen since. Guess it was on migration and headed on down the line. At
least, it posed nicely for photos. If anyone wants to see it or the cardinal
with a poke berry in its beak, let me know and I'll E-Mail them to you
personally.
Super birding wishes to everyone,
Dee Thompson
