Sorry, I wrote up this post Sunday evening and it never appeared for some
reason, lost in space I guess.

Mike Todd and I returned to Mud Island Sunday around 10 AM and stayed till
after 1 PM without finding the Cave Swallows. There were factors working
against us as a tug boat with motors running full blast holding a string of
barges
in the current parked right in the mouth of the Wolf River. This barge was
there through out our stay and prevented the swallows from feeding in the
current along the bank. The roost area was being bombarded by two World War Two

fighter planes making runs low and directly over the wires. This only lasted an
hour or so and a few Rough-wings started reusing the wires but nothing like
the numbers seen on Saturday. Even the Chimney Swifts had moved away from the
area but could be seen across the river with the swallows in numbers.

We did a lot of scanning the clear blue skies and came up with; 3 Black
Vultures, 1 Turkey, 1 adult Bald Eagle, 4 Northern Harriers (flying very high),
 4
Cooper's, 7 Broad-winged, 5 Red-tailed Hawks.

I'll be checking the area if I can get away this week and post findings. The
river has risen 16 feet over the last week or so and started a quick fall on
Saturday. There are no sandbars visible but they should immerge again later
this week.
Good Birding !!!
