[TN-Bird] Kingston Steam Plant, Sat. Sept. 1

Saturday, Sept. 30, I returned once again to the Kingston Steam Plant in
Roane County, TN. Arrived at 3:45 p.m., left at 6:30. On the small pond by
the soccer field I found 2 Pied Billed Grebes on the pond and a Palm Warbler
on the chain link fence. Hunting the hill and ridge to the left as you walk
in to the main ponds was an American Kestrel. Walked the perimeter of the
first large pond on the left, ending up at the hill that leads to the upper
ponds and was treated to a Northern Harrier, hunting along that ridge. From
my vantage point at the foot of the hill, that harrier looked huge. What a
treat!
Only saw two shorebirds and they were flying away from me. All I can say is
that they were much, much smaller than the two Killdeer flying beside them.
Here's my count:
Canada Goose 2 (along with one killdeer the only bird life up top)
Mallard 27
Pied-billed Grebe 2
Double-crested Cormorant 2
Great Blue Heron 4
Great Egret 1
Turkey Vulture 3
Northern Harrier 1
Red-shouldered Hawk 1 (over the river)
American Kestrel 1
American Coot 6 (far end of the low pond)
Killdeer 5
Mourning Dove 2
Chimney Swift 30
Belted Kingfisher 1 (river)
Eastern Phoebe 2 (soccer field pond)
Blue Jay 3
American Crow 1
Tree Swallow 11
Carolina Wren 1
Northern Mockingbird 4
Palm Warbler 1
Common Yellowthroat 1
Eastern Towhee 1
Song Sparrow 2
American Goldfinch 3
