A week ago Sunday, 02 OCT 2005, Dianne Draper and I heard and saw several
HORNED LARKS in Washington Co., TN in the Limestone area. They were calling
from the weedy field on top of the hill between Smith Bridge Rd. and Corby
Bridge Rd. around dusk.

Tuesday, 04 OCT 2005, at my home in Central Community, Carter Co., TN, I saw a
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, BLUE-HEADED VIREO, TENNESSEE WARBLER, & a YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER.

Wednesday, 05 OCT 2005, near Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greene Co., TN, I saw
two SEDGE WRENS again in the same field as the previous weekend, across
Whirlwind Rd. from the 4-H Center.

Saturday, 08 OCT 2005, at my home in Central Community, Carter Co., TN I
observed a COMMON RAVEN flying eastward and calling. I suspect from its flight
path that it was coming from Iris Glen landfill in Johnson City, TN where I
have occasionally seen them, and going toward the limestone quarry in Watauga,
TN where they have been known to nest. The elevation of this sighting is
approximately 1600 ft.

Sunday, 09 OCT 2005, at my home in Central Community, Carter Co., TN, I saw a
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH.

Sunday, 09 OCT 2005, at Musick's Campground on South Holston Lake in Sullivan
Co., TN, Dianne Draper and I saw a COMMON LOON, 3 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 3 EARED
GREBES, an OSPREY, and an AMERICAN COOT. Dianne Draper also discovered a
number of beached aquatic invertebrates that at first appeared to be jellyfish
about 3 to 6 inches across, but they turned out to be bryozoans, according to
Dr. Dianne Nelson, an invertebrate biologist from ETSU.

Monday, 10 OCT 2005, at Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greene Co., TN, I failed to
find the Sedge Wrens where they have been seen recently. I checked out another
field (behind the 4-H Center) with similar habitat where I had found Sedge Wren
a couple of years ago. I was startled when I came upon a flock of 8 BOBOLINKS,
and 1 MARSH WREN. Further searching through the Johnson Grass and other
assorted weeds gradually revealed 8 more Bobolinks for a total of 16. Other
assorted spp. at the center today included 15 WILD TURKEYS, 6 NORTHERN
BOBWHITES, 2 RED-TAILED HAWKS, CHIMNEY SWIFTS, 1 RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, 1 PINE
WARBLER, PALM WARBLERS, SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 2 INDIGO BUNTINGS. However, no (0)
RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS were observed, nor have they been seen here since
early last week.
