Phipps Bend (on Holston River near Surgoinsville, Hawkins Co., TN)

Observers: James Brooks, Margaret Gaut, Carole Gobert, Lynn Mannan, Don 
Miller, Charlie Muise, Tracey Muise

A group from this past weekend's TOS meeting held in Greeneville, TN 
spent Saturday morning at Phipps Bend.  Below are the most notable birds 
observed.  Totals come from my notes and represent undercounting in some 
cases as I'm sure I didn't capture everything seen by everyone. 

Double-crested Cormorant (5);
Great Blue Heron (3);
Great Egret (3);
Canada Goose (87, including some seen in Surgoinsville);
Wood Duck (8);
Mallard (2);
Blue-winged Teal (10);
Turkey Vulture (11);
Osprey (1, possibly 2);
Sharp-shinned Hawk;
Cooper's Hawk;
Red-tailed Hawk;
Killdeer (11);
Least Sandpiper;
Pectoral Sandpiper (3);
Wilson's Snipe;
Chimney Swift (9);
Eastern Phoebe (3);
Tree Swallow (4+);
Gray Catbird (4);
Brown Thrasher (2);
Cedar Waxwing (25);
White-eyed Vireo (3);
Black-throated Green Warbler (2);
Blackburnian Warbler (2);
Yellow-throated Warbler;
Common Yellowthroat (4);
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (2);
Indigo Bunting (19);
Field Sparrow (3).
