[TN-Bird] Ky Lake - Red-necked Phalarope

I spent the day at Ky Lake and it turned out to be very productive. I started
early in the AM at the gull island opposite the bridge at Paris Landing. There
appeared to be one remaining Laughing Gull, the adult LBB Gull was still
present, but other than a number of Caspian Terns, not much else. A nice
warbler flock responded to the screech owl tape at Paris Landing which included
a number of Blackburnians. I chcked Little Eagle Creek, but found only a dozen
Pectoral Sandpipers, and a few Mallards, along with hordes of Great Egrets. At
the mouth of Eagle Creek, I ran into 3 goose hunters taking in their decoys,
there were no waterfowl to be seen. Britton Ford yielded an A Golden Plover at
the same spot the Curlew Sandpiper was seen last year - the beach at the very
end of the road to the south. There was no gull roost at Pace Point, the water
is quite low. There was another nice warbler flock there which featured a
cracking Golden-winged. I was still hoping for Frank
lin's Gull so decided to retrace my stops - not much at the mouth of Big
Sandy, still no ducks at Eagle Creek, and I was rescanning the gulls at Paris
Landing when a small bird splashed into the water in my scope view - a lone
Red-necked Phalarope in winter plumage. The wing stripe was seen in flight,
and the thin bill and rather trim body shape helped to rule out Red Phalarope.
My prior experience in chasing these guys has been dismal, as they never seemed
to stick around for me.
