The Nashville Fall Count on October 2 resulted in the lowest ever total of
103 species. The day started with rain, but then was mostly cloudy for the
remainder. A Blue-headed Vireo was added as a count week species. Some of the
few highlights were:
1 Red-breasted Merganser in Cheatham Co.
1 immature Bald Eagle in Cheatham Co.
106 Wild Turkeys
3 Greater Yellowlegs, with Killdeer the only other shorebird
1 Black-billed Cuckoo in Cheatham Co.
All the woodpeckers, but just 1 Red-headed
2 Red-breasted Nuthatches
1 Sedge Wren at Shelby Bottoms
2 Ruby-crowned Kinglets on the Harpeth East route
All the thrushes except Veery
19 warbler species
118 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks
3 White-throated Sparrows in Cheatham Co.
The Owls Hill and Bell's Bend routes were not run, and the Gallatin Steam
Plant had no good habitat.
