[TN-Bird] Re: potential for rare hummingbird...

Anyone looking for the Green Violet-ear:
I am quite familiar with this bird because they live around our house in Costa
Rica most of the year. This is a gorgeous hummer if seen in the right light.
But very difficult to locate unless at a feeder. Best clue for locating him--if
he is "singing"-- is an unbelievably monotonous, loud, and irritating
Cheep-Chut,
Cheep-chut, Cheep-Chut "sung" over and over throughout most of the day. This
can
be heard from at least a hundred yards. Of course, only the male "sings," but
they do so much of the year. Trouble is, if this is truly a Green Violet-ear
and
he (she?) is lost and not "on territory," he/she may not be singing. Other
problem with actually getting a look at this bird is that he is incredibly
ventriloqual.
