Late Saturday afternoon, I located and photographed a Mottled Duck at Ensley
Bottoms in southwest Shelby Co. in Memphis. This is a bird that I have been
looking to show up in TN for years. I relocated the bird in the afternoon on
Sunday and Mike Todd and Don Manning saw the bird, again in with Mallards on
Tuesday. There has been a large influx of ducks this weekend with Pintail, Blue
and Green-winged, Shoveler, Gadwall, Wigeon, Redhead, And Ring-necked seen
along
with the regular birds.
Don and Mike had the fortune of finding the duck and having a Black Duck swim
into view at the same time. This would be a rare sight anywhere.
I believe early morning and late afternoon would be the best times to search
for this bird at TVA and any of the many hidden haunts in the area.
