With domestic chores done and trip packing completed, I took advantage of the 
perfect afternoon weather to take an unread issue of "WildBird" to the lower 
deck.  From this vantage, the mister in the tree and the shallow part of the 
waterfall are both visible.  During this idyllic interlude, I observed the 
usual Carolina chickadees, cardinals, red-bellied and downy woodpeckers, 
goldfinches, Carolina wrens, white-breasted nuthatch and tufted titmouses.  
More 
unusual visitors included pileated woodpecker, Swainson thrush, summer tanager 
and a 
pair of brown thrashers.  Most exciting, though, was a small nondescript that 
played in the wet leaves under the mister.  It proved to be a Philadelphia 
vireo, the 143rd species for the yard.
