While in Costa Rica two weeks ago (last week of September), we were
pleased to see that many of our neotropical friends from North America
had already arrived deep into Central America (not far from South
America).
On Sept. 22 on our property outside Monteverde, we observed:
Black and White Warbler (1)
Black-throated Green Warbler (3)
Nashville Warbler (1)
Wilson's Warbler (several)
Later in the week we also saw:
Summer Tanagers (2)
Red-eyed Vireo (1)
more Wilson's Warblers (common there)

It is a very strange experience to see some of these species here in
mid-September, and then a week later see them in southern Central
America, and then come back to Tennessee and see some migrants still
hanging around here in October.  Gives you a real sense of how spread
out fall migration really is.
