A quick stop out of the gate to Sharp?s Ridge Sunday morning at
9:30 am to see if the "gates" were open was successful,
but the birds didn?t cooperate. A rose-breasted grosbeak &
a ruby-crowned kinglet were about it.

Kingston Steam Plant was the next stop. An Am Kestrel was seen
working the field, then perching on a barb wire at the top of a
chain link fence with several Bobolinks sitting right beside. A
few E. Meadowlarks were seen, & Song Sparrows were
prevalent.

The large pond on the left had 3 Western Sandpipers, 1 Least
Sandpiper, & 3 American Pipits. Also seen were 2 Great
Egrets, 2 Black Crowned Night Herons (1 a juvenile), Am Coots,
numerous Great Blues & Killdeers. Mallards were all we saw
on the duck scene. 4 DC Cormorants, & numerous palm
warblers were seen on the far north end (we hadn?t read e-mails
before departing, & sadly didn?t know to look for the
Nelson?s).

A stop at the lake boat access side where the pines are at the
waters edge & there is a nice flat grassy area yielded 4
brown-headed nuthatches, & countless pine & palm
warblers.

A quick stop at the Bear Creek Rd. marsh was rewarded with a
great view of an Osprey eating a fish while perched precariously
on top of a 6 in. dia. dead tree.

A 4 mile middle of the day hike on the North Greenway just off
Highway 58 was sparse bird-wise, except for a Belted Kingfisher
& Great Blue Heron. We did jump a nearby White-tail doe at
the marsh/ beaver dam area.

With the Ospreys catch in mind, a trip to the Cross-eyed Cricket
off Hwy 95 for a trout dinner was unsuccessful (turns out, they
are closed on Sunday), but we did get a great look of a
Red-shouldered Hawk in a nearby field.
