Susan Cash and TN-Birders,
I would be respectful of those European hornets when out birding. Though not as
aggressive as baldfaced hornets, they will vigorously defend their nests, as my
little poodle found out to his sorrow last year. The sting is reportedly worse
than the baldfaced, which is plenty painful enough.
Had a couple of gorgeous male redstarts flycatching around the yard yesterday,
also an ovenbird that seemed to be following a brown thrasher around. Haven't
seen that before, but it makes sense, sort of like the phoebes that follow my
lawn mower sometimes. Best birding,
Jud Johnston
