Ensley Bottoms
Shelby, Co. TN
Two trips to Ensley on Thursday yielded the 3 Wood Storks that have been
present every day this week in the barrow pits along Riverport Road and a
Neotropic Cormorant flying with the DC Cormorants going to roost. I got a
couple of photos before they flew on toward Robco Lake. This is the 3rd
Neotropic I've had at Ensley, the last being on Sept. 12, 2004.
Working downtown this week, I've been able to run down as storms approached and
it has paid off, a full run down later. Buff-breasted continue to be quite
obliging while the Uplands still sulk. I was able to walk with the
Buff-breasted after dark the other night and got a few up close and interesting
shots using a flash. They are super nice birds.
On the Mississippi River yesterday flotillas of Pied-billed Grebes floated
south and a group showed up on TVA Lake. Caspian, Black and Least Terns plus
Ring-billed Gulls have been numerous.
