Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co, TN
After work today and just in time for a little squall, I made it down to the
bottoms. I checked the barrow pits on my way in and nothing but a few hundred
Great Egrets along the way. At TVA Lake, there were 14 Ring-billed Gulls and
near a hundred DC Cormorants. The Peregrine had had an afternoon snack and I
got some really neat shots but the bird was not a neat eater as its front was
streaked and blotched with red. I got about the best photos that you can get of
the species. This bird has been around all week.
At the pits, the front had dropped in a lot of new birds. Tomorrow will be a
busy day. I ran across 5 Baird's and evidently the signaling Buffy has called
down a few more buddies for a quick count of 9 feeding in the pigweed.
On the way out, at 6:30 I had 3 Wood Storks in with the Great Egrets, evidently
they use this as a way station going to feed and to roost as finding them takes
multiple trips. Any way a lot of good birds holding for photos.
