[TN-Bird] Two testy hummingbirds....one a rufous??????????

Good afternoon,
Here in the Charlotte Park section of West Nashville, the hummingbirds have
been hovering around and fighting over the feeder. For over an hour, I have
been waiting, watching and hoping that one apparent migrant would return and
let me see it better and maybe get a photo. Just as I came into the room
after having been grocery shopping this morning, two hummers were wheeling,
turning and chasing each other then disappeared into the hackberry trees out
back. As one of them did its wheeling and turning in the brilliant sunshine,
I
got glimpses of bright orange as what appeared to be a possible adult male
rufous played tag with a bird that looked like a female ruby-throated. This
male had all the brightness of "Willie," the rufous that frequented the
Curtis'
feeder in Smithville for so many days a few winters ago and of a large number
of rufous males that I've seen out west. I just wish it would come back,
but it did fly back into the trees instead of perching on a limb facing the
feeder. Usually, they perch on a nearby limb if they plan to feed again soon.
I have quite a few ruby-throateds perched out there right now from where they
make fairly frequent visits to sip sugar water.
Question: Isn't it supposed to be to early to expect a rufous? Or, is any
time after breeding "game" time?
Whatta bird!!!!
