[TN-Bird] Sightings Report 12 Sept 06 Ensley Bottoms Area

Sept 12, 2006. Memphis, Shelby County, TN
Location: TE Maxwell Lagoons
Observation date: 9/12/06, 5:15pm-7:00pm
Notes: Lots of birds at the pits today both the front and back big
ponds had huge flocks scattered over the area. Several times huge lift offs
would happen all to re-land several seconds later. Maybe 2000-3500 birds
total. Least & Semipalmated Sandpipers were about 95 percent of the crowd.
Starlings came in third with about 350. Pects were hard to find. The back
pond had a good size flock of 60 yellow-legs wading near side levee.
Migration starting to pick up.

Great Blue Heron 1
Red-tailed Hawk 2
Semipalmated Plover 1
Killdeer 55
Lesser Yellowlegs 72
Solitary Sandpiper 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper 1000+
Western Sandpiper 3
Least Sandpiper 1000+
Pectoral Sandpiper 35
Mourning Dove 7
Northern Mockingbird 2
European Starling 350+
Location: TVA PONDS
Observation date: 9/12/06, 5:05pm-5:15pm
Notes: Grackles around 100+, and Starlings 250+ are starting to mass up
into lg flocks. Waterfowl all congregating to the back of the large pond.
Small pond had only 2 Grt Bl Herons.
Number of species: 9

Double-crested Cormorant 15
Great Blue Heron 2
Great Egret 23
Mourning Dove 10
Eastern Bluebird 4
European Starling 250+
Common Grackle 100+
Location: Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp
Observation date: 9/12/06, 4:50pm-5:00pm
Notes: Not a lot happening around the little bodies of water.
Number of species: 3
Wild Turkey 3
Great Egret 1
Mourning Dove 5
