Kingston Steam Plant, Roane County, Tenn., Saturday, Sept. 9, 4:30 - 7 p.m.
birded the upper pond, walked its perimeter. Most of the shore birds were
at the far end though there was a group about 1/3 of the way back (killdeer,
3 Least SP and a Dowitcher). Nice day, nice place. At the far end of the
pond you can see down to the river and on its east? side can look down into
the first lower pond which is where the herons, cormorant & ducks were. All
the shorebirds I saw were up top, but then that's the only place I went. By
the time I got to that side the light wasn't so good. I really studied these
shore birds (I have to; otherwise I'd be reporting 50 LBJs). Took a break
by sitting on a big black pipe, lowering my tripod and scoping the birds
from there; you can get pretty close to these birds at Kingston). When I
picked up my binoculars I discovered I'd set them down in an ash pile. Is
ash good for the lenses do you think?
