[TN-Bird] Blackburnians--Costa Rica FOS Migrants

Yesterday (Sept. 5) I recorded my first neotropical migrant of the fall
season here near Monteverde, Costa Rica. Two female (perhaps hatch-year)
Blackburnian Warblers were feeding in the tops of the canopy in an open
forest patch (4000 ft. elevation).
According to Skutch and Stiles (Field Guide to Birds of Costa Rica),
Blackburnians [incidentally, the Mascot/symbol of Knoxville TOS] are among
the first neotrops to arrive here (excluding shorebirds). They may arrive
here (presumably from the SE USA--perhaps Appalachian Mountains) as early as
late August. They prefer the middle elevations during migration and some
remain here all winter.
Hurray! Migration here is underway. We look forward to seeing soon lots
more of the birds that left us last spring.
