I thought some of you may be interested in this.
Check out
http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage
for pictures of the west end of Dauphin Island, Alabama. (once at that web
page, look for a link to "Aerials: Dauphin Island, Ala.")
Dauphin Island is a prime birding destination, especially in spring and fall
when the Alabama Ornithological Society holds its meetings there, and many of
us in Tennessee have been there.
We don't often go out to the west end. Most of the birding is on the eastern
side, as that has many more trees - and apparently did not suffer as much
damage.
You may also want to check http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/LOUI.html
which is the Louisiana birding listserve. There's not a lot of birding going
on there right now, but it's nice to read the posts of people offering their
homes for birders forced to evacuate from further south.
