Actual mills or storage facilities are not necessary, spillage from grain 
cars which surly travel the tracks is enough for track oriented birds. Anywhere 
grain cars sit and are bumped food is provided for these urban doves. Their 
quick spread northwest but slow spread out from the major push is typical for 
this species that roared across Europe and now America. They progress in fits 
and 
starts as critical mass is achieved and also make huge jumps and most cannot 
all be directly tied to human intervention. There are over 1,000 in the 
various Memphis locations now and the first were found just 8 years ago.

The main thing, it is an invasive species that appears to be filling a niche 
and so far has not shown itself to be detrimental to other species. The 
Mourning Dove, a bird more of the country side, is a little intimidated but 
feeds 
near by and the photos on my web site shows they can get very friendly on 
occasion ;o) Authorities on doves that have been contacted and commented, think 
my 
photos show a hybrid of the two species.
