Four members of the Herndon chapter of TOS (Joe & Kim McGuiness, Don Holt, and 
I) ventured down to Rankin Bottoms, on upper Douglas Lake, this afternoon (14 
Sep).  We were met there by Bill Grigsby, Dee & John Eiklor, James Brooks,  
Shane & Dennis Adams, and a couple from N.C. (didn't get their names, sorry).
Best birds were 2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers, 2 Black-bellied Plovers, & a 
Short-billed Dowitcher, plus a Peregrine Falcon.

Also present were:  Pectoral Sandpiper - 16, Western Sandpiper - 1, 
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 15, Least Sandpiper - 20, Spotted Sandpiper - 1, 
Semipalmated Plover - 8, only a few Killdeer, Blue-winged Teal - 1, Great Egret 
- 75+, Black-cr. Night-Heron - 10+ and several Great Blue Herons & a few 
cormorants.

The lake level is good for birding now at Rankin.
