Allan Trently and I visited Rankin WMA in Cocke County last night (Sept 10,
2003) (directions to this site have been given previously on TN-Bird), hoping
to find a good number of shorebirds - we did not. At the coal tipple area,
there was one SPOTTED SANDPIPER and no others, not even Killdeer.
We met Rick Knight there who told us that he had seen about 75 shorebirds down
toward the end of the road. That's where we found them (including a total of
three KILLDEER). Best bird we found was one SANDERLING.
We also met Kevin Calhoon who reported a few Semipalmated Plovers.
